POSTBEAT POETS ACTIVIST SCHOLARSHIP PROJECT
INVITATION TO ARTISTS TO SUBMIT ESSAYS

The Museum of American Poetics (MAP) & Giant Steps Press invite interested poets, writers, musicians, artists, journalists, activists, and interested scholars to submit a discerning and expansive essay on the term "postbeat." The term "postbeat" is used to identify a leaderless multicultural movement directly influenced from the Beat Generation and their multicultural allies, working in various interconnected social justice communities over the last half-century. Leaderless community models co-influencing the "postbeats" today include the Arab Spring and Occupy Wall Street. Chosen essays will be compiled online at the Museum of American Poetics (http://www.poetspath.com/).
Because the Beats were a group of writers internationally known and read, we’re interested in 1) the range of Beat influence on the diverse postbeat generation(s), and 2) the range of influence exerted by the postbeats on current culture. Interrelated socio-political-historical-cultural-linguistic perspectives should be applied to any of these core subject areas: the term “postbeat,” the postbeat movement, postbeat poets era, postbeat poets, postbeat women's literature, postbeats of color, postbeat spirituality, postbeat technology, postbeat writers, postbeat poetry, postbeat ecoliterature, postbeat fiction, postbeat music, postbeat art, postbeat media, postbeat spoken word performance, postbeat oral literature, and postbeat poetics. Essays should touch on intersections within and among the arts, artistic communities, lineages and traditions.

Submissions should be in Word format and sent to either Jim Cohn at jameslewiscohn@gmail.com or Kirpal Gordon at kirpalg@aol.com, acting editors. Submissions previously published must include citation information. Authors retain copyright of their submitted intellectual property.
